Delete patient
Objective
Delete one or more patients from the system. This action is destructive and should only be used when the record has no clinical, schedule or cash box history that must be preserved.
Before starting
- Have
PATIENTS: ADMIN. - Confirm that the patient has no appointments, payments, prescriptions or studies associated. If they do, prefer deactivating the patient (Status switch) instead of deleting them.
- Have the reason for the deletion clear (the confirmation dialog requests it).
Step by step - Delete a single patient
- Enter the Patients module.
- Search for the patient.
- In the row, click the Delete icon (trash can).
- The confirmation dialog opens with the message: "Are you sure you want to delete patient X?".
- Confirm the deletion.
- The system validates dependencies; if it finds appointments, studies or payments, it aborts the operation and shows a message.
Step by step - Delete multiple patients (bulk)
- Enter the Patients module.
- In the first column of the table, check the checkboxes of the patients to delete.
- Click the Delete selected patients button (top toolbar).
- Confirm the operation in the dialog.
Expected result
- The patient or patients disappear from the list.
- The system shows a success message.
- If dependencies existed, the system shows an error message and no patient is deleted.
Pending: add screenshot of

Common errors
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| The Delete button does not appear | The user does not have PATIENTS: ADMIN. |
| The deletion fails with a dependencies message | Deactivate the patient instead of deleting. Deactivation preserves the history. |
| The deleted patient was a linked partner | First confirm that no partner record depends on them. |
Suggested permissions
PATIENTS: ADMIN.
Operational recommendation
- Avoid deleting patients. In most cases, deactivating the patient with the Status switch is sufficient and preserves the history. Only resort to deletion when the record is an obvious duplicate without history.
Relation with other modules
- Schedule: the deleted patient's appointments will be affected. Coordinate with the schedule before deleting.
- Cash box: the patient's payments and movements are preserved, but the patient is no longer available for new charges.
- Prescriptions and studies: previous prescriptions and studies of the deleted patient remain, but no new ones can be associated.
